Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam and is defined as the annual pilgrimage to the sacred city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia. Muslims from all over the globe visit the Holy Kaa’ba to surrender in front of their Creator. Hajj constitutes the biggest example of equality and unity where Muslims of all statuses and ethnic backgrounds bow in front of their Lord together. It is a spiritual practice and Allah has promised immense reward to whoever performs all the rituals with humbleness and devotion.
The Holy pilgrimage to Makkah and Medina gives a chance to visit the most sacred places which have deep significance in the history of Islam. Every Muslim is thus advised to implore his God with full devotion and piety when visiting such places because Allah (May He be glorified and exalted) blesses the one who remembers him. A few places of great sacredness are enlisted below. All prayers are accepted at these glorious locations and Muslims must make a mental note of supplicating to their Lord when visiting here.
- BAIT-UL-ALLAH, also known as Khana-e-Ka’abah is considered as the House of God in Islam and is the most sacred place in the world, situated in the centre of Al-Masjid Al-Haraam.
- HAJARUL ASWAD or the scented Black Stone is the eastern cornerstone of Ka’abah whose history dates back to Hazrat Adam A.S.
- MULTAZIM is the wall between Hajarul Aswad and the gate of Khana-e-Ka’abah where all Muslims come and pray for their wishes. It is believed that whoever wishes here, his prayers are never neglected by Allah.
- MAQAM-E-IBRAHIM, well known as the Station of Ibrahim is a block of stone. Its historic significance lies in the fact that Allah’s prophet Hazrat Ibrahim A.S. stood on this stone to build the upper walls of Ka’abah. As history speculates, this stone was sent from heaven along with Hajare Aswad in order to mark the location of Ka’abah. Originally it was present on the eastern side of Bait-ul-Allah but later was repositioned by Hazrat Umar (May Allah’s blessings be on him). It is now present in front of the Ka’abah for thousands of years now. When Hazrat Ibrahim A.S. used to stand on this rock to complete the construction of Ka’abah, his feet miraculously dived in the rock and the impression of his feet on the surface of the rock is visible till date. The government of Saudi Arabia enclosed this rock in a very precious shell of glass through which the impression of feet is clearly visible.
- HATEEM is a crescent shaped area immediately adjacent to Ka’abah. It was originally part of the Ka’abah itself but the residents of Makkah before the spread of Islam changed its location during the reconstruction of Ka’abah. After the victory of Makkah, Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. also did not bother to change its position in accordance with the situation at that time. There is a water channel which connects the roof of Ka’abah to Hateem area. This is known as ‘Meezab-e-Rahmah’ or the water outlet of mercy. Rain water flows down from the roof to the Hateem and people consider this water to be pure and sacred however there is no such evidence that states the religious importance of this water.
- SAFA and MARWAH are two small hills and one of the rituals of Hajj is to travel between these hills seven times in remembrance of Hazrat Ismail A.S. and Hazrat Hajra A.S.
- THE WELL OF ZAM ZAM is in close vicinity to the Ka’abah on the eastern side. It miraculously generates infinite quantity of water and has been flowing since thousands of years without any reduction in its supply. Originally, the Muslims going for Hajj used to draw water via ropes and buckets but the government has not set electric motors that generate gallons of water at a time. Numerous coolers filled with Zam Zam water are placed all around Masjid-ul-Haraam and people take hundreds of gallons to their hometown. Despite of such high consumption, there has never been shortage of water in the Zam Zam well. The water of Zam Zam is well known to treat thirst and every ailment of the body. Its cool and refreshing properties have made it the best medicine and it is the purest water available on this planet. It is advised to pray while drinking Zam Zam because that wish would never be neglected by Allah.
