The tear a man shed for seeking forgiveness is beloved by Allah. HE forgives whom He pleases. Allah makes it clear that His forgiveness is determined by his will When a man makes dua for forgiveness, it’s just Allah who listens. There are no barriers between The Almighty and the dua. It’s given in Quran as ayat of forgiveness,

“Allah loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and He loves those who keep themselves pure.””

Another ayat of forgiveness gives the importance of mercy and forgiveness:

O’ son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you.”

Meaning Of Word Astagfar

Astaghfar means “I seek forgiveness in God”. It’s an Arabic word and the smallest of all dua which we can make as part of our dhikr is أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ  which means “I SEEK FORGIVENESS FROM ALLAH”

How To Ask Forgiveness

We can start by saying أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ three times after every salah and a minimum of 100 times a day. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said in one of the hadith of forgiveness,

“Whoever says, ‘Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi,’ 100 times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea”

First of all one should make firm Intention and be committed to stop doing the sin. Fear of Allah or “Taqwa”  is the key to stay strong on the right path.Turn to Allah with conviction and ask HIM to give you strength to control your worldly desires.

“And He it is Who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons the evil deeds and He knows what you do.”

Raise your Hands and ask Allah to Forgive you.Be remorseful about doing something that is displeasing to Allah, even if you enjoy doing the sins. A sin has no definition , it is all the things that are forbidden by Allah. Don’t let Shaitan stop you from choosing the right pat

h. Keep your focus and continuously seek refuge from Shaitan. Keep on asking Allah to turn thy heart towards HIm only, Shaitan makes it hard for the repentant but whatever Allah wishes always makes it happen and if Allah wills to answer your dua of forgiveness you will definitely succeed.

Mercy & Forgiveness

Allah’s mercy is before Allah’s frown. HE is the most merciful and the most magnificent. In the Quran, it is stated in Surah az-Zummar where Allah’s mercy and forgiveness are explained together.

“Say (on My behalf), “O servants of Mine who have acted recklessly against their own selves, do not despair of Allah’s mercy. Surely, Allah will forgive all sins. Surely, He is the One who is the Most-Forgiving, the Very-Merciful.”

Fear and hope, both should equally be treated and felt in our hearts, in our worship and in our duas. Another instance ayat of forgiveness states,

 (Surah Al Araaf)

“Call out to Him with fear and hope.”

In another chapter ayat of forgiveness stresses on both mercy and forgiveness together,

“Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.”

How Dua For Forgiveness Makes You Strong

When a believer keeps on knocking the door of Allah’s mercy, he is definitely answered. When you make dua for forgiveness of all sins and continuously recite ayat of forgiveness from Holy Quran and listen to hadiths of forgiveness it makes your heart pure.

It lets your heart free from malice and dirtiness of sins. Making dua on a daily basis filters your soul and continually reminds you about mercy and takes your foot to the path of good deeds.

Dua For Forgiveness Of Sins

There are many duas given to us for seeking forgiveness revealed in the Quran and mentioned in Hadiths also. When a believer truly wants to return to Allah he has a lot of ways but first and foremost is to feel remorse from heart. Allah knows ur intentions better than thyself. Few dua for forgiveness are mentioned below.

Transliteration: Astaghfir ullah-alladhi la ilaha illa Huwal-Haiyul-Qayyumu, wa atubu ilaihi.

Meaning: I seek the forgiveness of my Allah, there’s no God except for Him, the Eternal and Self-Sufficient, I turned to Him in remorse.

Transliteration: Rabbana thalamna anfusana wa-in lam taghfir lana watarhamna lanakoonanna mina al khasireen.

Meaning: O Allah, we have done wrong to ourselves. If you don’t forgive us and have mercy on us, we’ll be amongst the losers.

Transliteration: Annee massaniya addurru waanta arhamuar rahimeen.

Translation: Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful.

Transliteration: La ilaha illa anta subhanaka innee kuntu mina aththalimeen.

Meaning: There is no God except for you. Glory be to you. I have indeed been amongst the evildoers.

Transliteration: Rabbighfirli wa tub `alayya innaka Antat-Tawwabur-Rahim.

Meaning: Allah, forgive me. Accept my remorse, You are the Acceptor of repentance and the Most Merciful.

Hadith On Forgiveness

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“O people! Ask for the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him as I ask for the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him one hundred times a day.”

In order to enjoy Allah’s mercy we should keep our heart clean and remove all the malice for people. We should keep forgiveness easy for us so that we receive easy forgiveness from Allah the almighty.

At another instance Holy Prophet (ﷺ) gave stress on asking for Allah’s forgiveness dua a ritual in our daily life,

Narrated Abdullah bin Amr: Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said to the Prophet “O Allah’s Apostle! Teach me an invocation with which I may invoke Allah in my prayers.”

The Prophet said, “Say: O Allah! I have wronged my soul very much (oppressed myself), and none forgives the sins but You; so please bestow Your forgiveness upon me. No doubt, You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

Whom Allah Doesn’t Forgive

Keeping in mind Allah’s love and forgiveness, still there is something which is unforgivable. Shirk is never forbidden. If a man dies without returning to Allah n worshipping other than Allah he must know that the doors of mercy are closed for him. Allah does not forgive associating others with Him in worship, but forgives anything else of whoever He wills. Acceptance and forgiveness is only allowed till you are breathing. The fear of death sometimes makes the soul repent but then time is already lost.
