Adore Your Wife

Adore Your Wife

“Adore Your Wife”

In our society due to irreligiousness and ignorance myths are widely spread. Sadly, misbehaviour with wives ( even oppression, murder etc.) is also commonly observed. Though in Islamic Sharia Law (based on teachings of Quran and traditions of Prophet Mohammed (blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him ), it is advised again and again to treat wives well with politeness.

Allah SWT says in Holy Quran;

“Consort with them in kindness, for if you hate them it may happen that you hate wherein Allah hath placed much good.” {Surah Nisah 19}

Allah SWT also says in Holy Quran;

وَاِنۡ تُحۡسِنُوۡا وَتَتَّقُوۡا فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُوۡنَ خَبِيۡرًا

If ye do good and keep from evil, lo! Allah is ever Informed of what ye do. { Surah Nisah 128}

Hazrat Mohammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him) himself, many times advised treating wives humbly. Hazrat Ayesha (R.A) says that she heard Prophet Mohammed PBUH saying;

“Among Muslims, that man has the strongest faith whose morality is high and the one who treats his wife politely and lovingly” {Tirmidhi}

Abu Hurayrah  reported that the Prophet Mohammed (blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him) said;

“Among Muslims, that man has the strongest faith whose morality is best and those are better among you who are good with their wives.”

Ayesha (R.A) reported that Mohammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him) said;

“That man is better among you who is more good with his wife and among you all, I’m the best towards my wife”

Conclusion

After reading all the above mentioned Quranic verses and sayings of Prophet Mohammed (blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him) we conclude that a man’s character, his morality and goodness can be determined by observing his behaviour towards his wife. Prophet Mohammed (blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him) presented his practical example to deliver his advice more effectively. He said that by the grace of Allah SWT I treat my wives well.

Reality is that Prophet Mohammed (blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him) behaviour towards his wives was very caring and loving. Practical examples of his behaviour are narrated in books of hadiths.

Aisha (R.A) said that once Prophet Mohammed (blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him) said;

Come I will race you so I raced with him and I won. After I became heavier he raced me and he won, so he laughed and said this one for that one. {narrated by Abu Dawood}

This is the greatest example of adoring and loving your wives. This hadith has also a lesson for those who think there is no place for such pleasures and enjoyment in Islam. A couple can form an exemplary family by following the sayings of Allah SWT and by adopting lifestyle mapped by Prophet Mohammed (blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him).

By following Islamic Sharia Laws based on teachings of Quran and traditions of Prophet Mohammed (blessings and peace of Allah be upon Him) we can adopt a peaceful lifestyle and can contribute to forming a civilized society. May Allah SWT help all of us to follow Islam properly. (Ameen)

  1. In 52 years of marriage I have always adored my wife and she has always been my blessing. Since I am a Rabbi I always think of it in Jewish terms: but over the many years that I have studied Islam I see a close convergence especially with Ibn Arabi and al-Rumi.

    I have written over 60 articles about Islam and Judaism. I would like to send you an article if you wish.

    Faithfully yours Rabbi Allen Maller
