Give your heart a break from everything that breaks you

Give your heart a break from everything that breaks you.

Every single one of us get through disappointments in life. Sometimes we find ourselves in a position where all we can do is ask, “Where did I go wrong?” And it happens that we, as human beings, fail to understand that some things are not in our control. We tend to want to take over everything that is in our lives and forget that we don’t own not even ourselves.

When we forget to put all of this into Allah’s hands, that’s what happens: we break. And no one can heal our wounds and put our pieces together but Him.

Leave it to Allah

While we are just mere creatures, He is The Creator, which means He controls every single thing. Wasn’t that what we were trying to do but could not?  He is the Only One who can do it, no matter how many humans, jinns, animals or any creation of Him there are, He can manage all of it at once and by Himself. We find it hard to pay attention to two different things at the same time, isn’t it?  However, Allah pays special attention to every one of His servants and takes care of all his affairs.

What should we do? Put our trust in Him and ask.

One thing that personally brought me closer to Islam when I was a teenager was this sentence. “Trust Allah” Just like any other Muslim out there my response was “Well, but I do trust Him” Did I really?  We are so caught up in our lives and get used to doing everything alone (little do we remember all we do is by His will), that we forget to actually trust Him and start worrying instead. The results of this are nothing but anxiety and stress. So next time you feel like this, put your forehead on the ground and tell Allah. Yes, He already knows it, but talking to Him actually makes Him happy and it will bring you satisfaction and peace. It will also strengthen your relationship with Allah, so don’t hesitate to turn to Him and put your heart out through Dua’.

“I do trust Him, but I still get sad.”

Sure, because one is not the nullification of the other. “So what’s the point then?” If you try and do it all on your own, you will always remain broken. If you put your situations in Allah’s hands and believe that He is going to do what is best for you, be it whatever it is, then you will find contentment in your heart and anxiety will not consume you. He will make it bearable and put in your heart the certainty that something better is coming out from this phase.

“Why do we get sad then?”

All of these are tests He guides us through. Sadness is a test also and it comes and goes. The most loved ones to Allah are the most afflicted with tests. Saying that sadness or depression opposes faith is a misconception because the Prophets were the ones with highest levels of Iman and still they grieved through their journey. But their minds were light, their hearts were whole and Allah honored them, because they turned to Him for guidance.

Do your best, leave the rest to Allah.

Trusting His Decree doesn’t mean you are going to wait for everything to happen and not do anything about it. Yes, you will work for your dreams and aspirations. You will solve your problems. But you will not let go of Allah’s hand while you do it. You will look for your comfort in your prayers and in the Quran because that is where you will really find it and they will not disappoint you.

Do what’s at your reach, and know that Allah sees your efforts, and He will reward you for every single one of them and help you to reach your goals. Don’t let this Dunya take the best of you. Give your heart a break from everything that breaks it. Put it out to the One who made it and He will make it whole again.
